How to Measure Your Windows Like a Pro Overview:
Measuring for window treatments is probably easier than you think. Below is a few tips to keep in mind when measuring your windows. Please be sure to read the instructions and if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to call our customer service department.
  1. We recommend using a steel measuring tape and measure to the nearest eighth of an inch.
  2. For an Inside Mount opening, do not take deductions, our factory will take the necessary allowances.  Please give us the exact window opening.
  3. For Outside Mount Only – Please give us the exact size needed (by adding the necessary coverage to the width and height of opening). Our factory makes all outside mount blinds the exact width and height you specify, no deductions will be made on Outside Mount.
  4. Please be careful not to confuse width and height measurements.  It is common to transpose these, so please note width first, then height.

If your size measurement hit any 1/16" marks round DOWN to the nearest 1/8"

Note: Factory automatically adds 12 inches to your roller wrap shades order at no charge.

Choose Inside or Outside Mount:
Before taking any window measurements, it is necessary to decide if you want to mount the window treatment inside the window recess or outside on the wall or molding. For an inside mount, the window opening must have enough unobstructed depth to allow mounting.  For optimal light and glare control, outside mount is recommended.

Just a thought: We usually recommend an inside mount where possible because it provides a cleaner look. However, an outside mount can make a window appear larger or hide an unattractive window and is necessary when there is not enough depth in the window. If you specify inside mount, we will make a deduction to allow for operating clearance. We will deduct up to 1/4" from each side (on vertical blinds there is also a height deduction of 1/4"). The deductions are made so that the blind will not rub up against your window frame or scratch the paint. If you specify an outside mount, we will not take any size deductions. Your blind will be made at the exact size you specify. So please be sure to ADD to the opening measurement to allow for overlap and mounting brackets.  It is very common to windows that aren’t square, so don’t be surprised.
